EOC: Ferguson and Marketing

Aug 9th 2012 Brown, 18, was shot and killed by Ferguson police officer Darren Wilson on Aug 9th and protesters have been angrily calling for Wilson's arrest and indictment since that day. Brown could've survived the first five shots but it was the six shot that killed him, a privately conducted autopsy found. "A gunshot wound to his arm could show either that he was hit while walking away from the shooter with his back to the officer, or that he was facing the shooter with his arm up, either in a surrender position, defensive position, or other motion, Baden said." I am trying to make a sense of this story and I am entitled to my opinion. He was shot six times, the first shot wasn't enough for the guy to surrender and be handcuffed? Autopsy did say the first five shots were survivable injuries. What is disturbing is that he turns around to face the policeman, while the policeman is still shooting at him. He then turns around to put his hands up and attempts to surrender . The bullet wounds are consistent with the inside of his arms facing the policeman as he is shooting at him. His attempt to surrender didn't stop the officer from filling with six bullets. Michael Browns mother at the same question any mother would have, did he suffer? " And Dr. Baden shared with her that he did not suffer."  "To me the marketing issues with this article are the police in riot gear and failure to see the people you serve as threatening individuals. " On tuesday night, however, it seemed that some of that energy had gone to the streets. The police made 47 arrest after demonstrators tossed bottles towards police officers. Yet more violence followed, including a chaotic episode on sunday when the police said demonstrators had tried to overrun their command post at Ferguson shopping center.

McDonalds " Hot Coffee" Case

In the year 1992 Stella Liebeck of Albuquerque, New Mexico, was in the passenger seat of her grandson's car when she was severely burned by McDonald's coffee. Liebeck had ordered a coffee that was served in a styrofoam cup at the drive through window of the local McDonald's. It was said that after receiving the order, the grandsome pulled his car forward and stopped momentarily so that Liebeck could add cream and sugar to her coffee. It was rumored that Stella Libeck was actually driving the car or that the vehicle was in motion when she spilled the coffee; neither is true. But, the truth is Liebeck placed the cup between her knees and attempted to remove the plastic lid from the cup. As she removed the lid, the entire contents of the cup spilled into her lap. Over 6% of her body including her inner thighs, perineum, buttocks, and genital and groin areas had third degree burns. McDonalds also said "that during discovery that, based on a consultant's advice, it held its coffee at between 180 degrees- 190 degrees."  "McDonalds however, also asserted that customers buy coffee on their way to work or home, intending to consume it there. , when they did some more research customers actually intend to consume the coffee immediately while driving." " They also tried to argue that customers know coffee is hot and that its customers want it that way. But, they did admit the customers where unaware that they can suffer third degree burns from the coffee. " The jury awarded Liebeck 200,000 in compensatory damages, that amount was reduced to 160,000 the jury found Liebeck to have 20% in the spill." The jury also awarded Liebeck 2.7 million in punitive damages, which equals two days of McDonalds coffee spills. http://www.hotcoffeethemovie.com/Default.asp

EOC Week: How To Make It In America

What is your super power? What do you do better than anyone else?
Ben and Cam's super power is dedication. Dedication and Ambition will get them so far in this industry. Better than anyone else's dedication are their go getter attitudes. They want something and they are going for it nothing is going to stop them.

What do people compliment you on or praise you for?
People compliment them on taking the negatives and turning them into positives. They praise them for trying to make a better life for themselves and their families. A lot of people talk about the accomplishments they want to accomplish but few do. But, not Ben and Cam they set their goals and they go for them and accomplish them one by one.

What adjectives do people consistently use to describe you perhaps when they're introducing you to others?
When people first meet Ben and Cam they describe them as good looking young people who have a passion for their jeans. They use the word ambition and progress when describing these two. Ambition because its obvious these guys don't lack that but progress also because they are young and they are learning the business all on their own. They are progressing in this industry trying to make a name for themselves.

What energizes or ignites you? What are your true passions?
What energizes them is good news which I think will energize anyone. Ben and Cam are ignited when they accomplish another goal on their list, when they know that they are only a few steps closer to achieving their goals. I believe that their true passion is being able to create something that they can be proud of. They want to experience what life has to offer and are working hard right now to someday be able to relax and enjoy what their hard work and determination gave them.

Week 2 EOC: More In America

In todays episode of " How To Make It In America"  Ben and Cam work on finding a tailor and money to make a sample of their designs. They are in such a hurry to get a sample that they are willing to keep borrowing money from friends. I think these guys need to rethink everything a make a legit plan. But, I must say their hustle is good. Cam quickly comes up with this grand idea to stand in front Park Avenue near private school to sell skateboards. He says this great pitch that the kids didn't really believe at first but, as soon as he mentions the bad boy rep this skateboard has they all want one. Their determination will get them far and I'm excited to see the samples in the next episode of " How To Make It In America".
